Reviews

'This book provides up-to-date technical, methodological, and clinical progress in the field of pulmonary function testing. Because of its wide breadth, this book will be useful to many people involved in the care of infants and children with respiratory diseases. Respiratory therapists and technicians will find the information on technical and methodological progress very appealing, whereas physicians and nurse practitioners will find the clinical applications of PFT very enlightening. Even intensivists will find the last chapter of the book rather promising in applying infant PFT to the management of the very critical child.
The editors and authors have achieved their objectives admirably. The 4 sections convey their messages clearly. The chapters are well written and illustrated. The book’s concise format helps the reader follow and understand even difficult physiologic and methodologic concepts. The fourth section will be most useful to clinicians. For example, the chapter on childhood asthma and wheezing disorders reviews the value of PFT for those conditions and concisely reviews their pathophysiology. This will help the reader better appreciate the value of PFT in these settings and, finally, bridge the PFT laboratory to the bedside.
This book is outstanding and easy to read and follow. It deserves to be in the personal library of everyone who takes care of children with respiratory diseases. It will not only enhance the personal knowledge of each one of us, but will ultimately help us better understand and manage our patients.'
