Reviews

'The volume consists of twelve detailed, beautifully written, well illustrated research and review papers by a group of authors (including three Australians) who are internationally-recognised experts in parasite and/or allergic immunology. The subject matter is wide-ranging and includes article on helminth-induced immuno-regulation to food, nematode infection and allergy, schistosomiasis and allergy, the roles of glycans and proteases, helminths and asthma, and the role of mast cells and basophils. Each paper is accompanied by its own reference list that provides a treasure trove of further reading and these alone would make the book worth buying. The subject index is comprehensive and easy to use. A minor criticism is that some of the detailed illustrations are quite small and use a fine font that makes them difficult to read easily if the reader is in any way visually challenged. The book uses good quality paper and is solidly bound.
This book is not for the faint-hearted. It does require an understanding of general and parasite immunology to become really useful, but it should be on the bookshelf of anyone who has an interest in this fascinating and important subject.

«Das Buch ist allen Spezialisten und Studenten aus den Bereichen der Parasitologie und Allergologie empfohlen, die sich für die Verbindung dieser beiden Fächer - wie uns unser Immunsystem über den IgE schon zeigt - besonders interessieren.»
