Abstract
Sorry, there is no abstract. Read the first few lines of the text instead! Goeldi's monkey (Callimico goeldii) has been assigned to the Mace-Lande category of 'vulnerable' [1], implying that it faces a high risk of extinction in the wild, based principally on both its low population densities and highly localised pattern of distribution [2, 3]. Hershkovitz [4: fig. XII.1, p. 864] restricted the species' distribution to the west of the Rio Acre (fig. 1), a tributary of the upper Rio Purús, but speculated that it occurs as far east in Brazil as the Rio Madeira. A number of more recent studies [2, 3, 5, 6] have confirmed that the species is widely distributed in the department of Pando, in the extreme north of Bolivia (fig. 1), but studies north of the Rio Madeira [7, 8] found no evidence of its occurrence further east in Brazil, that is north and east of the Rio Acre and Rio Abunã, respectively.
