Marketing Opportunities for the Industry

Let us help you communicate with the scientific community

The different stages in the development of a new product necessitate different communication strategies. Whenever your focus is on the opinion-leaders and decision-makers in practice, clinic and research, we can transport your message as part of a serious, professional and unbiased environment where it will be received with interest and respect.

Early Results: Articles

Publish your early results as papers in one of our journals. Karger journals span the entire spectrum of medical research and practice and are peer reviewed by experienced editors. After a careful review, papers are carefully edited, set, proofread and printed by dedicated professionals and usually published within 3-4 months after acceptance.

Apart from their subscribers and casual readers our journals reach an even wider audience as a rule thanks to their being abstracted and indexed by all major print and online services such as Current Contents and Medline/PubMed, regularly and generally with the least possible delay.
As a member of the CrossRef, we utilize Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) in bibliographic data to facilitate unique and persistent identification of research material. Journal article citations contain reference links to source material located on the web, when available.

The articles become available electronically on the Karger site for online subscribers and pay-per-view customers when the printed issue is dispatched. However, more and more Karger journals are published 'online first', i.e. articles are published electronically ahead of print, either with the definite citation line or the assigned DOI number. Articles therefore are fully citable and available online sooner, shortly after their authors' approval to print.

For details on submission please see the individual 'Guidelines for Authors' section on the journal homepages. To find the right journal for your paper, go to the Journal Index or the Subject Guide. Get in touch with the journal's editor for competent advice, or contact our editorial offices in Basel where Thomas Nold will be glad to help.

The Perfect Promotion Tool: Reprints

Support you promotional efforts with Reprints.
A favorable scientific paper published in a renowned international journal can greatly enhance the impact of your campaign. Offprints are usually ordered by the authors with the special order form supplied with the proofs during production of the issue, but we accept orders from other interested parties as well.

Reprints proper, after an issue has been published, can also be provided, particularly in bigger numbers; they are, however, subject to a considerably higher rate. Special covers or a logo imprint as well as the integration of your four-color advertisement on the back page can be arranged (prices on request). We can procure the requisite consent by the author(s) for both offprints and reprints for you at no extra charge. Contact Peter Roth of the Editorial Department for a detailed reprint or offprint quote.

e-Articles

We grant permission for PDFs of digitalized articles from most journals, books or supplement issues to be placed on secure and password-protected websites or web servers.

The permission fee depends on the duration for which you plan to make the PDF available. After three consecutive paid years, the permission fee is waved as of the fourth year. Additionally, we offer you a discount of five percent if you purchase the permission for all three years at the same time.

For more information and a quote, please contact Tatjana Sepin or Silvia Meier of Rights and Permissions.

Phase III Trials: Journal Supplements

Journal Supplements are the ideal vehicle for the results of your Phase III Trials workshop. Most of our journals are willing to publish workshops or conference proceedings as sponsored supplement issues. With a journal supplement you benefit from the combined visibility of a journal and an independent publication - you reach a much wider audience:
  • A supplement is treated similarly to a book; it is advertised and displayed independently and it can be ordered outside of a subscription.
  • As part of the journal it is abstracted and indexed in the same comprehensive way as a regular journal issue, its individual papers become accessible online and as reprints.
  • All subscribers of the journal receive a copy of it free-of-charge.

  • Plus sponsoring a supplement entails the exclusive advertising rights which will make it also the perfect medium for your company or product advertisement! Peter Roth will be happy to tailor an offer to your needs.

    Product Launches

There's more than one road to Rome – and for a successful product launch you better utilize them all! We can offer you 'highways and byways' that combine easily into powerful marketing tools customized to your specific need:
  • Advertising campaign: Place your product ads in a high-quality professional context where they will be received with interest and attention. For details on options, rates and rebates contact Tom C. Maurer or have a look at the Resources for Advertising Agencies.
  • Advertorials / Product News Sections: Several of our journals publish Product News - in combination with an ad in the same issue this creates a very strong impression. Get in touch with Peter Roth for more information.
  • Gift Subscriptions: Make sure your primary target groups see your ad campaign. In times of financial restraints and budgetary cuts such a noble gift is well received. The accompanying card or your logo will discreetly yet persistently reinforce your company's image. Let our Customer Service draw up a specific gift plan for you.
  • Supplement Journal Issues and, even more prestigiously, Books (either as part of one of our series or as an independent publication) are ideal vehicles to communicate the results of your workshop, symposium or conference on the efficacy and diagnostic/therapeutic value of your new product. Books in particular are reviewed, advertised, indexed and abstracted so that they reach the widest possible audience. They certainly also make perfect, impressive gifts. For quotes and publication projects contact Thomas Karger, he can help you make the best of your publishing options.
  • Reprints: Use offprints and reprints to create a strong promotional impact on the scientific community! Carrying the full weight of scientific respectability and peer judgment they make excellent tools to prepare the grounds, support and strengthen your image and product campaign. Talk to Peter Roth to find out more about buying reprints or offprints. Alternatively, to obtain permission to make your own reprints, contact Tatjana Sepin or Silvia Meier .
  • Electronic Reprinting (e-Articles): You can also obtain permission PDFs of digitalized articles from most journals, books or supplement issues to be placed on your website. To explore this option, get in touch with Tatjana Sepin or Silvia Meier of Rights and Permissions.
  • Online Access Sponsoring: A further alternative is sponsoring online access, by which you make individual book chapters or journal articles, entire journal issues or even whole volumes (published in 1998 or later) freely accessible to all Karger site visitors. A short acknowledgement text can make your sponsorship visible to all users if you wish, and hyperlinks can also be added. Contact Tatjana Sepin or Silvia Meier.
